Stampin’ Up! Australia - Stampin’ Up! Fairy Celebration

Hi!

Welcome to this week's Artful Stampers Blog Hop and welcome from Nicole’s blog.

I made this card for little girl in my son’s class. He attended her 6th birthday today and I thought she might like this card. :)

I used the technique for this week - the Faux Wax Seal - on the envelope. I stamped the little fairy image into the molten copper embossing powder and it left a cool effect! Shelli Gardner does a great little tutorial on this on her blog here

The seal looks nicer in real life. It kinda looks like a brown blob in my photo but actually it is very shiny and pretty. My advice is to keep the embossing powder nice and thick - you want that displaced look around the edges for an authentic wax seal look.

I took the colouring cues for the fairy image from the colours featured in the Affectionately Yours DSP. They work beautifully I think. I also put some sparkly Wink of Stella on her wings, the flowers and the toadstool. :)

Here’s our theme for this week:

Stampin’ Up! Australia - Stampin’ Up! No Bones About It

Hi!

Welcome to this week's Artful Stampers Blog Hop and welcome from Leah’s blog

I’ve used No Bones About It again...I can’t get enough of those little dinosaurs on my cards!

Here are the essentials:
  • No Bones About It is a two-step stamping set. Stamp your background in a lighter colour (I used Sahara Sand) and stamp the second stamp in a darker colour (I used Chocolate Chip for the bones)
  • Shake it like a polaroid with the Squares Framelit Dies. These give cool window frames for that on-trend polaroid look.
  • Layer some texture. I layered Naturals Chevron Ribbon and a strip of Cherry Cobbler for visual interest and colour.
  • Use up your embellishments! If you are anything like me, you are way too sparing with embellishments. Throw some candy dots on for fun!
  • Stuck for an idea??....visit one of the many challenge sites on the internet or visit here every Monday for a colour or sketch challenge idea. This week I’ve combined challenges (I often do!)...so I’ve used a sketch from Freshly Made Sketches and colours from our team colour challenge. :) I find that the colours and sketches will often guide me to a stamp set or design concept.
  • Heat Embossing. White greetings look great on a dark background....solution...white heat emboss your greeting onto your dark card stock.
    1. Use an embossing buddy to remove static...just rub it over the card stock...a small layer of ‘dust’ will appear. This is normal and helps ‘dry’ your surface and removes the natural oils from your hands that stick to the card stock during crafting. Your powder will unfortunately stick to this residue if you don’t do this.
    2. Stamp your greeting or image with Versamark. Versamark is a sticky ink....it’s magic really as the embossing powder will stick to it thus producing your finished image.
    3. Gently pour your chosen colour of embossing power over your stamped Versamark image. I have a powder pal (now retired) to catch the excess powder but you can use a plastic container or even a piece of paper folded in half to catch the powder. This makes it easier to get all the powder back in the pot.
    4. Got stray specks of powder? Invest in a very fine paintbrush from a craft shop and gently tap those specks away.
    5. Grab your Heat Tool and slowly heat the surface of the emboss powder - some people heat from underneath the card stock but I heat directly on top of - not too close but close enough that you see the surface melt. It is magic!!
Here’s an informative video from Stampin’ Up! to help you....

Stampin’ Up! Australia - Stampin’ Up! Build A Birthday - Clean & Simple Card

Hi

Welcome to this week's Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge.

I wanted to make a Clean & Simple card as I knew this colours would be bright enough to carry a design by themselves.

What is “Clean & Simple” you may ask?

Well, for me, it is a card that uses lots of white space, minimal layers and embellishments and a simple unfussy stamped design. It is my favourite style of card as I like how sometimes just colour and clever design can make a card dance!

I hope that is what I have achieved here. This card uses just ONE stamp set...in fact each stamp from this stamp set is showcased across the card and the envelope. :)

Here are the essentials:

  • Build A Birthday is a photopolymer stamp set which is great because it makes placement of the cake layers SO easy! Use the Stampin’ Pierce Mat under your card stock to get a perfect impression with photopolymer stamps.
  • The candle and the cake topper bunting don’t have very long ‘stems’...but if I just stamped them as they were then the cake looked too cluttered at the top...I wanted the bunting to be higher. Solution....use a Real Red Stampin’ Write Marker to extend the stems down to the cake! Similarly use a Hello Honey Stampin’ Write Marker to extend the candle stick down to the top of the cake.
  • Rhinestones Jewels....if you seem to collect/hoard the long strips of the tiny rhinestones, then be a crafting boss and use up a WHOLE STRIP! It’s empowering believe me. This stamp is perfect for it and it brings the eye down to just below the sentiment. I balanced it with a tiny rhinestone in the centre of the candle.
  • Double mounting. What’s this? Add a second very narrow white mat behind your main stamped layer and it will make your card look SO professional and finished. The top layer should adhere to this narrow layer with dimensionals so it floats. Trust me on this!
  • Stamp your envelopes! Make full use of your stamps and stamp your envelopes. It is also a beautiful little hint to the recipient that they are about to receive a hand-stamped card from a master crafter! ;)

Here are our colours for this week:

I took card inspiration this week from Seize the Birthday - Clean & Simple is the theme!

Card recipe

Stampin' Up! Australia - Stampin' Up! No Bones About It - Dinosaur Birthday card

Hi!

Welcome to this week's Artful Stampers Blog Hop and welcome from Amanda's blog!

I decided to return to my usual CAS (clean & simple) style this week.....the colours are bold enough to stand alone beautifully next to stark white and for a kids card sometimes simple bright design works best.

One stamp set. One sheet of card stock. 4 colours. Easy!

Here are our colours for this week....

I played along with CASE This Sketch last week and then I completely forgot to link up...so I'm having another go this week! I flipped the sentiment line with the image line...I like the balance of this sketch so much! Congratulations on 150 sketches CTS!! :)
