Stampin' Up! Australia - Stampin' Up! Butterfly Basics

Hi

Welcome to this week's Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge.

I had this piece of bokeh scrap that was calling to be on a card. I had demonstrated the bokeh technique at a Stampin' Up! event for fellow demonstrators and this was one of the pieces where I showed that Naturals White isn't the best medium to watercolour onto and that I did some ink pad direct to paper to hide some of the pilling....so really the main panel is a watercolour + swiping ink pad direct to paper + bokeh piece.

The base is Sahara Sand, then Mossy Meadow then Naturals White. My wood panels are from the Adventure Bound DSP stack. I stamped over the bokeh piece with Mossy Meadow using the fern stamp from Butterfly Basics and the netting stamp is stamped all over that piece using Crumb Cake ink.

I have wanted to do Kraft butterflies ever since I got the Framelit set and here was my chance. I put a Mossy Meadow Butterfly underneath too for a bit of pop.

The rolled chrysalis type thing at the top was a bit of an accident. I tried to staple a piece of Mossy Meadow DSP to the top of the main panel and it just didn't look right so I rolled it and distressed it instead for a earthy texture piece.

No sentiment on this card....I couldn't make it work.

Here is the sketch for this week's challenge:

  1. Your card is gorgeous, Alison! My favorite part is the 'chrysalis' concept and how you were able to take a mistake and make it a part of your work of art!

  2. Bokeh is one of my favorite looks....it's just so cool! The texture you achieved with the pilling is really neat actually! I like the way you offset the wood background pieces and the addition of the brads. I don't mind a card without a sentiment, in fact many of mine don't have one. I like to leave my options open! LOL!

  3. Beautiful card! And interesting how it evolved - good thing you just kept rolling with it, because it turned out great! I just love how natural all of the elements look!

  4. I was intrigued as to how you created your background panel Alison and now I know! Thanks for the explanation as to how it evolved - the panel is so full of interest. I love the natural feel of your card, right down to the wood strips and kraft butterfly - gorgeous!

  5. Beautiful background! I have tried the Bokeh background several times and it just doesn't turn out well for me! I am jealous of people who achieve such great results! It's very earthy!

  6. I love how you "recycled" the scrap that you used for a demonstration and took advantage of the texture of that pilling! I love all things earthy and how you've pulled all these components together to create this wonderful collage!
